Selection Criteria

Selection Criteria

To be considered for selection by UltraRunning Ireland for European or World Championships at 100km and 24 Hours, athletes should meet the following criteria:

100km Men                100km Women

7:30 hrs                         9:00 hrs

24 Hours Men             24 Hours Women

220 km                         200 km

These requirements are in line with IAAF / IAU Grade B standards. There is also a strictly limited number of wild card entries made available by the IAU during any given year. These wild cards can raise an athlete to Grade B level and help ensure full team participation.

Time Period

The standards should have been reached in race year or the preceding two years.

Notable achievements are considered in 'non-standard' distances against high-calibre opposition or appropriate solo performances / record attempts. Furthermore, men or women who reach an international Grade B standard at 100km (men < 7:30, women < 9:00) will be considered for selection for European / World 24 Hour races if there are team places available.

Please Note: The qualifying criteria for Home Nations competitions, such as the Anglo Celtic Plate 100km, are lower. Men with a sub 2:40 marathon time and women with a sub 3-hour marathon time would also be considered for these teams if places were available.

All ultra distances should be achieved in IAU-labelled or UltraRunning Ireland approved events. Meeting the minimum standards does not guarantee selection. Athletes should also be in good standing and not have brought the sport into disrepute.
