The Irish 100km team is in confident form ahead of today's European / World 100km Championships in Seregno, Italy (22 April 2012).
The UltraRunning Ireland team has based itself in San Giovanni with a large group of seasoned support crew.
The men's squad is extremely strong, with several athletes capable of running close to 7 hours or under. The team comprises Dan Doherty (captain), John Byrne, Michael Collins, Thomas Maguire, John O'Regan and Keith Whyte.
Jim McCormick represents Ireland as an individual athlete in the men's competition while Helen Lavin also makes her debut for Ireland in the women's race.
The team has been boosted by the election of UltraRunning Ireland's Richard Donovan to the world governing body for ultrarunning in yesteday's elections. He will act as Council Director for the period 2012-2016.
