Ireland's Eoin Keith and Eddie Gallen have competed with distinction in the Ultra Trail Tour du Mont Blanc and the Spartathlon recently.
At the end of August, Eoin finished 34th in the The Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (also referred to as UTMB) in a time of 28:54:50 hrs. This mountain ultramarathon is certainly one of the most difficult foot races in Europe. It takes place in the Alps, across France, Italy and Switzerland, and covers a distance of approximately 166 km. the total elevation gain is 9,400 metres.
At the end of September, Eddie finished 27th in the Spartathlon in 31:47:16 hrs. The Spartathlon is one of the most famous ultra races in the world. Athletes must run 240+ km between Athens and Sparta, following in the footsteps of the Greek historic figure Pheidippides.
