Daniel Doherty in action at World 100km Championships
Ireland's Daniel Doherty led home the Irish team at the World 100km Championships on 10th September running 7:08:07hrs for 14th position.
In windy conditions and temperatures in the 20s centigrade, Doherty appeared on course for Ireland's first ever sub-7 hour 100km run.
Despite conditions taking their toll on all competitors, Doherty maintained great consistency to set a fantastic PB and finish a mere 3 minutes outside Thomas Maguire's Irish record of 7:05:06 hrs.
At 4.30pm Irish time, the race is ongoing but the second placed for the Irish, Chris O'Neill, has finished in 30th position in the men's race in a time of 7:33:24, also establishing a PB for the distance. O'Neill had the courage to run ambitiously from the outset, going through the half-way point at sub-7 hour pace.

5.30pm Irish Time: John Byrne has finished in a time of 8:21:46 to complete the scoring finishers for the Irish team. John ran 7:09:33 hrs at the Anglo Celtic Plate earlier this year, but suffered throughout this race. He pulled up at one stage but joined the race field again - a great credit to the Mayo AC athlete. He finished in 59th position in the men's World 100km Championship race field.

6.00pm Irish Time: Unfortunately, Keith Whyte and Martin Rea, who both have sub-7:30 PBs, were forced to pull up with injuries. However, John O'Regan has finished 74th in the men's race in a time of 8:43:55 hrs.
