Seven USA athletes for World 50k

Five male and two female invited athletes from the USA are set to take part in the World 50km Final in Galway on 29 August 2010.

Leading the American challenge is Michael Wardian, qualifying with the time of 2:55:50 when winning the USA 50km title earlier this year. Michael is an amazingly diverse and talented runner. He has won the USA 50km title three times; he was third in the 2009 World 50km Final in Gibraltar and  has won the USA National 100km title in 6:56:57. In 2010, he finished third in the famous Marathon des Sables in the Sahara Desert and set a world indoor record for the marathon of 2:27:21. He has previously held the world treadmill record for the marathon when running 2:23:58.

Joining Michael in the men's race will be compatriots Malcolm Campbell, Scott Jaime, Daniel Verrington and Ben Nephew. Mary Coordt and Jill Perry will participate in the women's race.
