Picture of John O'Regan at World Championships
Six hours into the World Championship, the quarter way point, and the Irish athletes are all running to schedule. Each of the Irish team decided to wear a black ribbon as a mark of repect to the Brive 24 Hour Race Director, Patrick Marani, who died on Saturday.
Thomas Maguire is leading the Irish challenge, moving steadily up the race field while running an average speed of 10.6 kilometres per hour. He is being closely followed by Eoin Keith and Eddie Gallen, who are running 10.4 kph and 10.3 kph, respectively. John O'Regan is running at a very steady average pace of 10 kph.
Maguire is now increasing his pace with purpose.
Shingo Inoue (JPN) is leading the race at an average pace of 13 kph, ahead of Scott Jurek (USA) and Don Mun Lee (KOR).
USA is currently leading the team challenge with three competitors in the top six. However, the race is only getting warmed up....
There will be a further update at the half-way point at 21:30 Irish time.
