Donovan is RD for Commonwealths

Ireland's Richard Donovan has been appointed Race Director for the inaugural Commonwealth Championships at 100km.

The Commonwealth Mountain and Ultra Distance Championships will be held in Keswick at the heart of Cumbria, the English Lake District, from 17-20 September 2009.

The Championships will see athletes competing in three separate disciplines; mountain races, a 100km road race and a 24-hour race. Each discipline will test athletes to their limits of speed, endurance and mental strength.

This inaugural event is viewed by many as the initial stepping stone for inclusion of the sport at the Olympic Games. The IAAF already includes the 100km distance in its road rankings and the annual 100km World Championships is held under its patronage.

See the Commonwealth Championships website for more details.
