Barry made his international debut for Ireland at the IAU Trail World Championships, which was held in Connemara on 9th July 2011. A trail running specialist, he was a top finisher in numerous trail races in the UK in 2011 and also won the Mourne Way Ultra trail race in Ireland on 11th June 2011.
